Thieves strip copper cladding from roof of Scunthorpe church
Thieves removed a large area of copper cladding from a roof of a church.
John Boddy, parish churchwarden of the parish of Bottesford with Ashby, said that during the early hours of Saturday, September 15, thieves removed about 100 square metres of copper cladding from the roof of the Church of the Holy Spirit on Willoughby Road.
Mr Boddy said: "Thanks to the vigilance of someone living nearby, the thieves were disturbed and when the police arrived they had fled the scene empty-handed.
"We are now faced with the costly and time-consuming task of dealing with the repair of the roof.
