SCUNTHORPE United are hopeful the recurrence of winger Garry Thompson's troublesome groin problem proves nothing more than a 'little setback'.

The former Morecambe winger has started just five matches this season because of the injury, suffered at the start of the campaign, and had to come off during the 2-1 defeat to Watford a week ago after feeling it flare up again.

Manager Ian Baraclough says the Iron will assess the problem this week before deciding whether Thompson goes to see a specialist.

But he is refusing to rule the versatile forward out of Saturday's trip to Leeds.

"We've got to assess how his groin area is, but it's not good that it's broken down again," the Scunthorpe manager explained.

"We thought we'd built him up well enough through using him sparingly.

"It wasn't good to see it tighten up during the Watford game, but fortunately we got him off as quickly as we could so hopefully he's not done too much damage and it's only a little setback."

Baraclough is hopeful defensive duo Rob Jones and Cliff Byrne (back) will also be fit to feature at Elland Road.
