Tiler of year cements his skills
WHEN Ian Harrison was named Tile Fixer Of The Year 2012, he became something of an overnight pin-up.
As the face of a national trade advertising campaign, his picture became well-known in industry titles.
However, the award meant so much more than a picture in a publication or a gong on his mantelpiece as it reflected the dedication to training that he had displayed from day one of his career. In short, being named one of the top tilers in the country reflected five years of extensive training.
Mr Harrison, currently the only tile fixer in Hull to be affiliated with The Tile Association, said: "In just five years, I have cemented my reputation as one of the best tile fixers in the country by continually expanding my professional development with ongoing training.

"I received the Tile Fixer Of The Year award in recognition of my dedication to continual development training and the quality of my installations.
"To receive recognition from industry peers is brilliant.
"I've always strived to complete jobs to the best of my ability and kept up-to-date with the latest training to ensure the highest standards."
Ian's dedication to training led to him being selected by Leicestershire's Schlüter-Systems as one of five tilers around the country to feature in a range of adverts for its new Innovation Workshops.
These focus on detailed practical training for tile specialists throughout the UK, which means the Hull tiler's success is now encouraging others to follow his lead and upskill.
A hunger for training has equipped Mr Harrison with the skills needed to tackle bigger and more challenging projects and his technical specifications and recommendations has seen his work celebrated by TilerWorld.com for three consecutive months.
"After undertaking training with Schlüter-Systems, I have leapt ahead of the competition, securing bigger and more comprehensive jobs than my rivals – all thanks to the courses I have done over the past six months," he said.
Being at the top of his game has also brought big benefits to Mr Harrison's business in terms of customer satisfaction, with 100 per cent five-star reviews from satisfied customers on TilerWorld.com
Over the past five years the tiler, who specialises in natural stone and porcelain tile fixing has undergone no less than 17 different training courses and development modules, completing each to receive a string of qualifications and endorsements.
He said: "By going the extra mile, I have assured that I have become not only Hull's best tile fixer but also the best in the country."
