Time to stop moaning and enjoy Scunthorpe - our town
I OFTEN wonder why Scunthorpe people have such a chip on their shoulder regarding their town.
I certainly do not regard the High Street as the haunt of the less fortunate. In fact, I think there are some quite good shops there.

As for the drinkers, however much alcohol costs it would make no difference to them as a drink is top of their priorities and more often than not is the cause of their – and their families’ – poverty.
As for Jim Green’s comment that the Baths Hall was half empty for the Halle Orchestra’s visit, that does surprise me as when I lived in Rochester, the Central Hall there was always packed for any classical music concert and Scunthorpe is quite a large centre of population.

Perhaps there is something in what he says as apparently so-called comedians attract large audiences. I, for one, would not cross the road to listen to them.
Having said that, our town is as good as any other and better than most, so I suggest we all stop moaning about it and enjoy living here. - Robin Downs, Scunthorpe

“I think Scunthorpe is a good place to live, the only complaint I have is the black muck that is churned out by the steel works. It seems to get worse every year. Is it monitered by anyone?”

“I think that it is attributable to several things as I also share your view. However, what grinds me the most is that the people that continually spiel their negative diatribe about the town are also the ones that have no input or involvement with it. They cruise to work every day and rely upon someone else to pay their wages. They have never had any responsibility for paying people from their own pocket and wouldn't know a good business plan if it jumped up from the coffee shops table and slapped them in the face.
Instead, they sit at their screen and whinge and whine like a pig stuck in the mud. They live in the constant belief that every other town in the country has something that they do not and as such have a constant "victims" mentality that somehow they are missing out on something. Problem is, is that these moaners begrudge the fact that "Someone else" will always be responsible for providing these things for them as they themselves probably couldn't balance a cheque book, let alone run a small business.
That said, fortunately, these people (the moaners) are a very small minority as most people have the intellect and brain power to understand that Scunthorpe is not much different from any other small town and that we do actually have more to offer than what most give it credit.”
