WITH just five matches left, Cundy Phoenix look set to be crowned the new first division champions of the Scunthorpe Rileys Tuesday Pool League.

Captain Ash Ellis and his men have a seven-frame lead and, barring a major defeat in their last match, against potential runners-up Scunthorpe Conservative, are sure to lift the trophy.

It is almost cross-the-line time too for Ashdown Gs, the runaway leaders in division two who have edged 19 frames in front after 13 games without defeat.

But Beck Bombers, leaders in division three, look in trouble after fighting back from 3-1 down against Black Beauty to win by a single frame. For Ferry Sailors have a game in hand to close a two-frame gap at the top.

At the other end of the division, it was good news for Lincoln Imp Rovers who finally broke their duck in their – unlucky for some – 13th game.

It's proving a good season for Cundy Snooker Club as The Continentals moved into the top spot in division four, seven frames ahead of Mallard Js.

The Continentals also look set to beat Ashdown Gs to the honour of the first team to score a ton in a season.

Mallard A recaptured the lead in division six after hammering Brumby Bruisers 9-1. In division eight, Poacher C made it 11 wins in a row and, with a game in hand on leaders Parkinson Arms, could close a six-frame gap.
