Tobacco tsar to cut smoking deaths
THE job of tobacco tsar has been created for the first time in North Lincolnshire.
The £40,000-a-year officer will be tasked with driving down the number of smoking-related deaths in the county.

STUBBING IT OUT: A role is to be created in North Lincolnshire to help reduce the number of smoking-related deaths.
The smoking tsar job is a joint project between NHS North Lincolnshire and North Lincolnshire Council, with the funding coming from the Department of Health (DoH).
The main task for the successful candidate will be to drive down the number of smokers the region has, through support and advice.
Coun Len Foster, deputy leader of North Lincolnshire Council, said: "Smoking is one of the leading causes of health inequality and premature morbidity.
"I welcome this joint initiative with the NHS North Lincolnshire to create a new Tobacco Control Co-ordinator."
Most recent figures, released last year, show around one smoker will die each day in North Lincolnshire, while three non-smokers per year are killed by second-hand smoke.
A DoH spokesman said: "It is good news that another local council has appointed a local tobacco control co-ordinator whose contribution will help in reducing the burden of ill-health to the local people and the local economy."

“Another really useful job created at North Lincs Council.
£40k to sit in an office to talk and write about how to do things.
When the average salary in Scunthorpe is really low it's amazing to see how many people are employed in Pittwood House on big salaries and practically do very little.
I suppose the role models they have: Councillors, set a great example, making promises and doing nothing ! It would be interesting to see how much is spent on the council's thousands of staff sat in offices all day doing nothing much that is really effective.”

“Dont worry, these public sector parasites along with associated pensions wont last much longer, tax receipts collapsing, gilt auctions failing. No more money in the pot, come 2010 the IMF will be sacking 20% of them as a pre-condition for bailing us out. I'll be dringing champers that day.”

“The heaviest smokers in society - and the most likely to kill themselves are those in the lowest class, particularly those on the dole.
The large tax take from cigarette duty is a jolly good way of recovering some of the money wasted by the government on welfare handouts to these wasters who won't work, and are more than happy to spend their days sitting, smoking, watching Jeremy Kyle and the like on their plasma tellys.
Its a waste of time and resources to try and get this lot to give up smoking.”

“I have advised FRED (phred) to get his medication changed. However he is as usual ignoring any sensible information given. Also tried to get the ward manager to restrict his IT access to Childrens BBC Games only.”

“You can tell we have a Labour government can't you? Another overpaid, pointless, nonsense state job created at great expense to the struggling taxpayer and cocking a snook at the ranks of the unemployed. A tobacco tsar? Whatever next? The salt-intake Stasi? Eck, maybe I've given Gormless Gordon another idea for spending our cash.”

“What a flaming waste of the publics money, if people want to smoke themselved to death let them, there has been plenty of money spent warning them if they havent the sense to heed the warnings there is no point in throwing good money after bad.”
