THE first day of a new campaign to slash Humber Bridge tolls has seen considerable support.

We are calling on the Government to cancel the bridge's debt of around £330-million.

There have already been 160 names put to the Scunthorpe Telegraph's petition, mainly through this website.

A petition coupon, which appeared in today's paper, will also appear in Thursday's Scunthorpe Telegraph.

You can also sign the petition by clicking here.

Politicians and other North Lincolnshire leaders have also given their backing.

The campaign began after a study said a toll-free bridge would give a £1-billion boost to the long-term regional economy.

Another option is a nominal charge for vehicle crossings based on £1 per car.

Brigg and Goole MP Ian Cawsey said: "I hope this turns out to be a pivotal moment in the campaign."
