IF EITHER John Hunt or Councillor Tony Ellerby had read my letter in Viewpoint it referred to the time when I was on Scunthorpe Borough Council when Asda applied to open its store here.

This was in the mid-1970s when dear Labour was in control on the old borough council. We had a record number of Conservatives (16 members) but this application referred to by both Labour chaps was refused well before Asda/Wal-Mart applied to move to Normandy Road.

Sorry Mr Ellerby, you cannot blame the Tories. Nice try though.
