Tough encounter ends in disappointment for Scunthorpe bowls team
THERE was disappointment when Scunthorpe faced a tough away match against Lincoln A in the Lincolnshire County Men's Over-60s League.
This fixture has always proved to be an extremely difficult encounter, but Scunthorpe team arrived in Lincoln with in a quietly confident mood.

However, the home side slotted straight into their stride, securing an early lead of 33 shots to 26 over all the five rinks.
Lincoln continued to produce consistent quality bowls and extend their advantage to 64-44 by the midway stage.

The visitors tenaciously plugged away, trying desperately hard to claw back some of the deficit, but they were unable to make any significant inroads into Lincoln's lead.
As the game drew to a close the hosts extended their advantage, finishing with an outstanding victory of 16 points to two (125 shots to 86) and four out of the five rink wins.
The successful rink for Scunthorpe of Vinny Bolton, Stan Shellard, Tom Whiteley and Ray Robinson were involved in a see-saw battle.
During the later stages of the match the Scunthorpe quartet produced some excellent bowls to secure an outstanding win by 21 shots to 19.
The rink of Bill Jackson, John Painter, Derek Leeson and Jim Davidson played well to lead their opponents for two thirds of their encounter.
But they were unable to hang on in the final ends of the match, losing 26-23.
Bill Hutson, Len Lammas, Ron Kelly and Phil Boulton found their Lincoln opponents in very good form, losing 21-14.
The Scunthorpe rink of Ian Pringle, John Downs, Dave Saxby and Alex Mullin never quite managed to get on terms with their opponents, eventually falling 26-14.
The final rink of Alan Trown, Peter Bennett, John Rayner and John Hopkinson found their opponents in devastating form.
Struggling to gain any kind of foothold in the game, they were beaten by a quality Lincoln four, 33-14.
