Tour of Britain countdown to begin
THE countdown to the Tour of Britain cycle race continues with a regional launch tomorrow.
As reported, North Lincolnshire will host the first stage of the Tour on September 12, with huge crowds expected to line the route to catch a glimpse of some of the top names in world cycling.
The launch event will take place at the CTC Cycle Show, in York, tomorrow, with a delegation from North Lincolnshire set to attend.
North Lincolnshire Councilor and cycling enthusiast Mick Grant will be at the regional launch.
He said: "This is a massive achievement for our area and the wider Yorkshire area too.
"There is much to celebrate and the regional launch aims to do just that.
"I'm sure on September 12, local people will come out and line the streets to cheer on the athletes and soak up the excitement of the day."
The race will begin at North Lincolnshire Council's Pittwood House headquarters, in Scunthorpe.
The peloton will then travel along around 30 miles of North Lincolnshire's roads before heading north towards York, where the first stage will finish.

“Come the day of this hyped up event, I sincerely do hope that the community's interest and enthusiasm will not reflect the zero responses to all 3 news stories on the ST web site!?
You do have to wonder to what extent Cllr Grant's hype and confidence of the local response are perhaps deluded by his passion for cycling and a perceived status of NLC's Cycling Tsar!?”
