IT WAS the beginning of a new year at Holme Hall over the weekend.

Patricia Smith was welcomed by the traditional arch of golf clubs when she arrived for her drive-in.

Patricia then drove a dozen golf balls from the first tee before the ladies played two nine-hole competitions.

The winners of the front nine competition were Elaine Farmery, Shirley Wynne, Liz Leggott and Margaret Dixon.

Rose Daws, Christine Stones, Sandra Cole and Sheila Houghton took the honours on the back nine.

The following day new club captain Chris Overton held his drive-in and arrived in style on a Harley Davidson before 136 players competed in a Shotgun Better Ball Stableford.

The top three, all with 44 points, went to Jamie Sanderson and Johnathon Charlesworth (first), Steve Dixon and Andy Clayton (second) and Andy Barker and James Bush (third).

The next four places, all on 43 points, were also separated on count-back.

Fourth went to Kev Paxton and Mick Enwright, fifth to Tony Bulleyment and Mick Lefley, sixth to Darren Crynne and Rick Storey and seventh to Nigel Dent and Phil McArthur.
