HUNDREDS of music fans swarmed to Belton Playing Fields this weekend as the final Fake Festival of the summer signed off in style.

Performances from U2, Red Hot Chilli Peppers and Adam And The Ants tribute bands were greeted by rapturous crowds at the event in Jeffrey Lane, Belton.

The Fake Festivals, now in their fourth year, have been a hit with music fans across the region this summer, with festival bosses promising they'll be back next year.

Organiser Jez Lee said: "It's been a great year, the events get bigger and bigger.

"We've taken in more venues this year and we've seen the demand is definitely still there wherever we've gone.

"Festivals seem to be becoming more popular each year, but often people feel priced out by the major festivals, and when they come to events such as these they realise they can have just as much, or even more fun here.

"People want to be able to come and see local bands, and it's great for the musicians as well who are getting the chance to perform in front of thousands of people.

This summer's Fake Festivals have seen an eclectic mix of tribute acts performing to crowds in North Lincolnshire, but Mr Lee feels Belton saved the best until last.

He said: "It's been a great day to bring this year to a close, we've had 4 Kicks and 3 Hour Week today who have both been magnificent.

"New 2 in particular are one of my favourite tribute bands and we've had lots of people come to see them today.

"The most enjoyable thing about hosting the festivals is being able to put something on for everyone and seeing a real wide mix of people enjoying themselves locally."

Scunthorpe band 3 Hour Week were one of the local acts performing at the festivals this summer, and the four-piece relished the opportunity to play to a packed crowd.

Guitarist Danny Richardson, 26, said: "We really enjoyed our set, it's great to have the opportunity to play to such a big crowd and also get enough time on stage to really let people see what you can do.

"We've played a few of these now and they're brilliant for local bands like us."

A packed festival tent showed their appreciation to the acts on show, with many bands winning rave reviews.

Reveller Rachel Simpson, 24, of Holly Close, Scunthorpe, said: "It's been a brilliant day. For me, 3 Hour Week were the highlight.

"I've really enjoyed the fact that you get to hear some great live music but it's a little bit more personal than some of the big festivals and the atmosphere's been brilliant.

"There's been loads of really good local bands on show as well and festivals like this are a perfect way to see the latest local talent."
