Following the incident, flowers with messages of condolence have been left at the scene, which is known locally as Barton Road End.

A message left by one mourner said: "Forever in our hearts. You will never be forgotten RIP xxx."

Another message read: "You were always the one to make us laugh. Going to miss you millions. Forever in our hearts."

In another note, a friend said: "You are a top lad. Going to miss you, pal."

"Always in our hearts. We miss you so much already xxx," read another tribute.

The driver of the Isuzu, an 80-year-old local man, suffered minor injuries, as did his passenger, a 75-year-old local woman.

Any witnesses to the collision should contact police by calling 101 and referring to log 543 of February 3.
