The managers of a new tanning salon say a cash injection from UK Steel was vital to help them open for business.

Tantini Tanning Salon opened on Ashby High Street after a loan worth £4,500 and a discretionary grant of £500 from UK Steel's Kickstart Fund.

Business partners Denise Staniszewski and Louise Mineham have known each other since school and decided to join forces to start the new business after Denise completed a degree at Lincoln University and Louise was made redundant from her last job.

The 31-year-old, from Lincoln Gardens in Scunthorpe, said: "The nearest competitor to us in Ashby is in the middle of Scunthorpe, but we are centrally located to pick up a wider client base.

"Tanning is a growing market and we have brought in up and coming brands that are being made popular by celebrities, so we are very positive about the future."

Louise said that without the funding from UK Steel Enterprise, the business would not have opened or the jobs created.

The 31-year-old said: "It's so hard getting money from the bank these days that we had to look elsewhere for finance to get started.

"The Kickstart funding was a real boost to us and made a huge difference."

Allan Wood, regional executive for UK Steel Enterprise, said the two young businesswomen were perfect examples of aspiring entrepreneurs in North Lincolnshire.

He said: "The two of them have worked really hard on their business plan, which shows potential for further expansion and possible job creation.

"The positive can-do attitude of them both gave us the confidence to back them and their ambition to run their own business.

"If there are more people like Denise and Louise in and around Scunthorpe then we want to talk to them to help them start new businesses."

UK Steel Enterprise, the wholly owned subsidiary of Tata Steel, launched the Kickstart Fund to help create 100 new businesses in North Lincolnshire over the next two to three years.

To help manage the funding applications, UK Steel Enterprise has partnered with North Lincolnshire Developments Ltd.

The Kickstart Fund's aim of creating new businesses will bring much needed jobs to the area.

The fund provides businesses start-up finance up to £5,000 in a combination of unsecured loans with the option of the awarding of small discretionary grants.

Established businesses can also apply for unsecured loans of up to £5,000 from the fund to help them grow, expand and take on new employees.

Tantini is located at 245 Ashby High Street, Ashby, Scunthorpe.
