AS IF their task wasn't hard enough given they sit rooted to the bottom of the table, Andy Hughes admits he and his Scunthorpe United team-mates are now fighting battles on two fronts.

Not only are they struggling to ward off the tide of relegation, Iron players have also been warned their futures at Glanford Park are on the line.

Alan Knill's arrival as manager last week wiped the slate clean at United.

It is up to his new charges to ensure they finish this season with a positive mark next to their name.

A 6-0 battering at Norwich was certainly not the best way to create a good first impression.

But it is that result which will drive the Iron on to do better when QPR roll into town tomorrow, according to Hughes.

"First and foremost it's about getting a bit of pride and dignity back from last Saturday," said the 33-year-old.

"Of course you want to impress the manager, but the only way you're going to do that is on the training pitch as well as in games.

"You've got to impress him every day and catch his eye, not just on Saturdays.

"The players will be trying to do that.

"Of course we're fighting for our futures. Get relegated and you look like bad players.

"If you're not fighting for your future then something's wrong.

"If any of us go down without a fight, we won't be here next season.

"The manager will see that and get rid. He wants players who are willing to fight and be brave on the ball.

"If he sees players not doing that, then I'm sure those players won't be here next season.

"Like he's threatened us, I'm sure if he wanted to, he could change the whole team for tomorrow because no-one deserves to play.

"But he's got to pick 11 players from the squad and we're going to have to go out and at least try to do better."
