UPDATE: Reaction to theft of ambulance from Scunthorpe General Hospital

The East Midlands Ambulance service has commented on the theft of one of his vehicles from Scunthorpe General Hospital yesterday.

A spokesperson for EMAS said: “Although the vehicles isn’t used for accident and emergency work, it still performs a vital role in providing transport for people who have to attend hospital for medical treatment.

"Luckily, thefts like this are very rare but the incident has caused a lot of inconvenience for us and we will have to take the vehicle off the road to have repairs carried out.

"We are pleased that the police arrested a man on suspicion of committing the crime.”

Police were called out shortly before noon yesterday (Tuesday Jan 29).

The vehicle, which did not contain any medication, was later recovered from Coventry Close.

It had struck a fence on Salisbury Close.

The hospital declined to comment.

Police later said a 22 year-old man had been arrested.
