AN ELECTRONICAL genius has moved one step closer to a high flying career in engineering after becoming the top performing A-level electronics student in the country.

Kyle McInnes, 18, dropped just three marks out of 600 in his electronics A-level exams.

More than 400 candidates from across the country sat the course and earlier this month the examination board, AQA, announced Kyle as the highest performer.

"I was absolutely overjoyed and I was completely shocked," he said.

"I thought the first exam went quite well but I was not at all confident with the second and I was quite nervous about my results.

"When they came I was astounded and delighted."

Kyle who is from Hatfield Woodhouse chose to study at John Leggott specifically because of the electronics course they offer.

He said: "I have always been interested in how things work electronically and when I was younger my dad and I were part of a radio club.

"He liked presenting but I was always intrigued by the equipment and technical side of things and I am always tinkering with electrical things at home.

"I chose to study at John Leggott because of their electronics course - I knew it was highly regarded."

Kyle also studied maths and physics at A-level and further maths at AS, he achieved As in all subjects.

“Having been in electronics myself before retiring the best advice I could give this young man is to get your degree (At least it's not a Mickey-Mouse' subject!) and move abroad because in the UK your talents would be wasted.”
