UNITED manager Nigel Adkins is likely to ring the changes for tonight's visit to West Brom.

They certainly have to make one switch in defence where left-back Marcus Williams is ruled out through suspension.

Brendan Moloney, signed on loan from Nottingham Forest, could be handed his full debut as his replacement. But a fit-again Andrew Wright is also in contention.

They will probably have to make another change on the right of midfield as Garry Thompson is struggling with a hamstring problem.

And with plenty of strength in depth in the engine room department, the Iron might take the opportunity to freshen things up and find places for both Michael O'Connor and Josh Wright in the starting XI.

"That's something the manager will have to look at," confessed assistant boss Andy Crosby.

"We now have a good strong squad.

"Those in the team know they have to do well to keep their place. Others are chomping at the bit to replace them.

"One or two players like Michael O'Connor and Josh Wright have found themselves unlucky.

"Michael lost his place through suspension and Josh through illness – and they have not been able to get back in.

"We have got other players sat in the stand who cannot even get on the bench, which is something that we wanted, something we have been working for."

Crosby insists that Thompson has not yet been ruled out of the reckoning for the clash at the Hawthorns.

“Normally I would agree with you Rich but for some reason Adkins rates Cliff and Thommo in the air and plays them against tall players no matter where they are at the start of a corner. Its therefore the job of smaller players to track the wingers (did you see who was on that post for example?) As for the Williams incident the centre back was only level with Williams when the tackle came in because the centre back dallied and Williams pace was such that he caught them up I suggest you watch the highlights again to see what I mean. Yes it shouldn't have been a yellow but a more alert centre back would have read the danger earlier.”

“Sorry Disagree with all of you, Kev if your going to leave Cliff out then who are you putting in?? Dan, Willams was out of position and had to chance back the CD was along side him when Williams brough him down, It dosnt matter who your man is at the corner, Ambrose was their left winger therefore Cliff or Thomo should naturally have been the first to close him down (anyone would have done) and finally Rich, i agree with your line up, apart from you have no width - and youve got McCant in there who gave the ball away far to many times on sat and is generally a waste of space for 60mins of every game. Keep the other 3 and have an outlet on the wings to help hayes and hooper.”

“I agree with Rich. I think Byrne should be in AND left alone (as far as I am aware Ambrose wasn't his man from the corner, Williams got sent off because the centre backs went to sleep and the 2nd goal was from the left back position where the left back got turned to easily.
Yes he missed a chance but as others have admitted so did other players and at the end of the day we know what his record for scoring is not great (although he has scored some really important goals e.g Tranmere -I know it was last season but some people are still going on about the last time we were in the championship!)
    Good luck lads”

“I'm afraid Byrne has to be dropped. He's the weak link at the back. Needs far too much time on the ball for this level. He got caught several times on Saturday - and missed an absolute sitter as well (although he wasn't the only one).”

    “Murphy - Byrne - Mirfin - Jones - Moloney - O'Connor - Togwell - Wright - McCann - Hayes - Hooper”
