United must conquer home fears says defender Mirfin
STANDARDS have increased since the end of January, insists Scunthorpe United defender David Mirfin.
The centre-half, who returned to full training yesterday and could be in contention for Saturday's clash with Derby County, has seen an improvement, even if results have not yielded any points.

FRUSTRATED: David Mirfin.
But he admitted ahead of a home clash with Nottingham Forest tomorrow, that the Iron of this season are finding it difficult to live in the shadow of last season's fine form at Glanford Park.
"It has been massively frustrating, especially when you look at the home form now, as compared to last year," he said.
"It has been a big change. After three or four games you think it is not going to keep happening – but it has.
"Because it was so good last year, any run of results without winning here was always going to be compared to that.
"It is not like the work-rate is not there, the work-rate on the training pitch is there, it just, for some reason, doesn't happen (in games).
"Of the players the gaffer has brought in, a few have not been playing for their clubs and will need a few games to get match sharpness.
"When that happens in the forthcoming weeks, hopefully there will be a change in results, and we will get back to some form.
"With the lads that have come in the standards have increased."

“These next 4 games are the ones to determine our season! Forest at home tonight! can anyone see us getting anything? funny old game football. Saw some little shoots of recovery v Hull! anyone who says 5-1 was a true reflection of the game must be from the north side of the bridge, who we have no time for anyway! Come on you Iron fans! get your shouting voices out the cupboard and take them with you tonight! As ever & for always UP THE IRON!!!!”

“Sorry Mark from Bev but I implied what you are arguing anyway "We surpassed them anyway in terms of shots but failed to score. That has been the difference all season against most teams." (should have of cause read more than one goal!) In other words you don't score chances are you lose.
We have lost lots of games this season because we have failed to convert our chances.Which you obviously need to get points. Didn't think I had to spell out the fundamentals of the game.
Would argue 100% that we are right to stick with Bara certainly for the remainder of the season. Should be reviewed in the Summer and if not challenging for promotion next season come DEC (presuming we go down) then we should look at changing the manager. Would be very surprised if the board aren't thinking along though lines as well.”

“Sorry Dave your post did make me chuckle. I seem to remember us Scunny fans being quite popular with you lot on the wrong side of the river especially when you came knocking with your begging buckets because you`d been locked out of the dump that was Boothferry Park. That was the name of your previous ground by the way, I`m guessing that you`re one of the new breed of plastic Hull fans.
As for being a total disgrace to the words football fans, remind me whose supporters it was that thought nothing of putting the windows through on the Boston supporters buses a couple of years ago?
Still half term will be over soon so I guess you`ll be back at school and then we won`t have to read your drivel for a while....”

“What matters is i paid good money to see my football team loose every week, look at my points they are well justified. I bet your one of these new found plastic fans who think they know everything. Scunthorpe united is in a mess and i have every right to say so just like any other fan who wants whats best for the club. People pay there hard earned money to watch there football club and what do they get for it? THATS IT NOTHING THERE VIEWS ARE NOT EVEN LISTEND TO!!!!”

“Dan, Scunny
However good your defence looks and however many shots at goal you have dont put points on the board. Hull that day showed us how to play a game of football on a shocking pitch, If i remember correctly it was Dagnell who said "we should use the state of the pitch against them" What good that turned out to be. Baraclough's the problem, HE NEEDS TO RESIGN!!”

“So we've dominated most teams this season, bombarded their goal and just not quite managed to stick the ball in the net?! Not happened in the games I've been at.....”

“If we could get a couple of wins a few of the "injured" players may get better a bit quicker ??”
