Unusual fruit and veg in pupils' new garden
A RAINBOW of fruit and vegetable will be grown at an award-winning garden, which has been rebuilt at a North Lincolnshire junior school.
Pupils at Leys Farm Junior School, Bottesford watched eagerly as the garden designed by Scunthorpe gardener John Cavill was recreated in their school field.
As previously reported, Mr Cavill won the silver medal at the Gardeners' World Live event at the NEC in Birmingham for his garden called: 'A World Beyond The Classroom'.
Together with budding gardens, he helped to turn an overgrown section of the school field into a garden complete with a rainbow of different fruits and vegetables.
Stephanie Danby 10, said: "Today we have grown little grandad original spinach - I have not tried it before but I am looking forward to once it has grown."
The youngster who helps to grow her own vegetables at home said she loved the new school garden.
She added: "I think it is amazing and it's all ours."
Ewart Gibbs, headteacher at the school, said: "It is absolutely unbelievable - it had come a long way since Christmas when the idea was first put forward."
