The singer – who made it to the judges' houses in the 2012 show – visited North East Lincolnshire Council's sports development trainees.

Jake, 24, of Bottesford, near Scunthorpe, who was at Nicole Scherzinger's house in Dubai for the show, said the best part of X Factor was hugging Nicole and meeting new friends Ella Henderson and Rylan Clark.

He has reached the iTunes top 30 downloads chart and the UK top 100 singles chart with his song, Mile High.

He said: "It's been great doing this workshop and being seen as a role model – but they have been teaching me moves, too!

"I have been showing them my hip-hop moves and singing some of my songs.

"I want to make the workshops a regular thing."

Jake, who describes himself as a "doughnut", said X Factor had changed his life, but not his personality.

"I'm singing for a living now, which is great, but you don't let it get to you.

"I'm proud my single made it into the charts and it sounds cheesy, but it's about a girl."

Jake said he is really good friends with Rylan, who he gigged with and good pals with Tetney's Ella Henderson.

"Ella is a really lovely girl," he said.

"She text me a couple of days ago asking how my Christmas was – she's a really busy girl being in London.

"It's a shame I didn't get to see her more on the show because we went our separate ways."

For wannabe dancers or singers, Jake's advice is to stick with it: "It is so hard to make it and my advice is to keep going, even if you have been knocked back."

Sports development trainee Georgia Pearson, 19, of Waltham, said it was a huge shock to have Jake with them at Western Youth Club.

"He is really good at singing and dancing and we have been showing him some of our dance moves.

"This is a fantastic treat for me, being halfway through my apprenticeship."

Gemma Foster, 20, of Grimsby, found Jake's hip-hop moves a challenge.

"I was really excited to meet Jake and the moves he has been showing us are really technical.

"We have been showing him burlesque, disco and contemporary dancing – so I think we are all learning something.

Apprentice Hollie Smith, 17, of Cleethorpes, said: "When I told my friends what I was doing today they said 'oh my god I can't believe your meeting Jake' – and I couldn't either!

"It's been a really good afternoon."

“I'm surprised he hasn't been snapped up to appear on one of the brilliant celebrity shows that adorn our TV channels, I'm sure it will happen soon”

“Well, I for one enjoyed that Jake, the lyrics are a bit risque though, maybe I'm getting a bit prudish in my old age. Glad you're singing for a living, you deserve to. Bring on all the negativity now then fellow posters.”
