Mourners were asked to wear football shirts and bright colours in honour of brave Liam.

People donned shirts from Liam’s favourite football team Manchester United, plus England, Scunthorpe United, Newcastle United and Liverpool.

Liam’s wife Alice, 21, wore the Manchester United shirt the couple had been presented with by striker Robin Van Persie when they spent the day at Old Trafford to watch Manchester United play from an executive box.

Liam’s mum Michelle and sisters Hayley and his twin Amy wore Man Utd football shirts printed with Liam 1 Son, Liam 23, and Little Big Bro.

The Wold Singers performed at the service, which was conducted by the Rev David Eames – the vicar who married the couple.

A family burial at Broughton Cemetery was followed with a wake at Broughton Working Men’s Club.
