Vaimoso: I've not been able to step up
HE HAS been Scunthorpe RUFC's talisman for many years, but winger Rewiti Vaimoso confesses the current campaign isn't living up to his usual high standards.
Injuries have taken their toll on the Kiwi, who is looking forward to a festive break in the fixture list following Saturday's trip to Longton.
"My body's not getting any younger and I've got a few injuries niggling me at the moment so the break will do me good," said Vaimoso.
"Sometimes the players need me to step up a bit and I've not been able to do that, especially with my injuries.

"Sometimes I do feel like I'm letting them down.
"There are times where they need me to step up and I'm not able to do what I did before because my body's not feeling as strong as it did or my head's not in the right place – I've not had the best year personally.
"But it builds character when you come through it."
Head coach Tim Robinson has dubbed this week "a very big game" given Longton are level on points with Scunthorpe in National Three Midlands.
Vaimoso though, says the Greens will travel with confidence after running high-flying Nuneaton close in Saturday's 24-10 defeat.
"After the game everyone was happy with their performance," he said. "They all knew they'd played as hard as they could, we just need to take that into this weekend."
