'Validate' cards help under-age drink fight
SCUNTHORPE pubs will become the first in the region able to accept the "Validate" identity card after meetings with police.
The card is available to anyone aged 16 years and over and is supported by the Home Office, but has not previously been accepted as an alternative to a passport or driving license in Humberside bars.

Licensing Officers from Scunthorpe Police will be working with local businesses in the area to help promote the card, which has already been introduced in several areas nationwide.
Patience Roberts, owner of Zest Bar and Pubwatch chairwoman, said: "Many people simply can't afford to buy a driving licence as a form of personal ID, and are reluctant to bring their Passport with them on a night out.
"This will be an alternative for those people, and if we can get as many people as possible bringing ID with them, it is much easier to tackle underage drinking.
The cards are free of charge and are designed specifically for purchasing age-restricted products.
Application forms for the card will be available at all licensed premises in Scunthorpe, as well as at Scunthorpe Police Station, or online at www.validate.co.uk.

“Well said Dr. Johnson,
I couldn't understand what Me in Bed was talking about.
Maybe he's on strong medication?”

“Thankfully, "Me" and "Hazel", Scunthorpe has a large Asian and East European population that has an excellent knowledge of the English language and its grammar. Your English language skills are non-existent at best!”
