Victory for wind farm campaigners
CAMPAIGNERS living in the Isle of Axholme have won their fight to block plans to route wind farm construction traffic through their rural streets.
The celebrations began after North Lincolnshire Council on Tuesday rejected an application from RES which wanted to use Ealand, Eastoft and Luddington as a route to transport components to build a 34-turbine windfarm in Keadby.

Brigg and Goole MP Ian Cawsey, who also represents the Isle of Axholme, said: "I think this is entirely the right decision. There was no logical reason to bring traffic that can go down a motorway through our villages and I am grateful that following the meetings I have held with North Lincolnshire Council's Highways Department that they have listened and done the right thing."
He said there still may be work to do should RES submit an appeal.
He added: "This decision can be appealed against so we may have more work to do, but this is a victory for common sense and I hope RES will see that and accept it."
Axholme North ward councillor Trevor Barker added: "I am delighted by this decision and for all the support Mr Cawsey has given us. This was never an acceptable route and it is great that together we got the right result."
Tom Fewster, project manager for RES' Keadby Windfarm project, said: "We are disappointed by the council's refusal of our traffic management plan and we will be working closely with the council over the next few months to try and resolve the issues that have been raised."
