WANT-AWAY midfielder Josh Wright is unlikely to leave Scunthorpe United during the January transfer window, the Telegraph can reveal.

His father Mark, who is also his agent, believes a summer exit is more likely.

And the 21-year-old player's hopes of a loan move away from Glanford Park also look set to be blocked by manager Ian Baraclough, who still sees him as a key member of his squad.

Wright senior insists there has been some interest in his homesick son since his wish for a move was granted by the Iron last week.

"There are Championship clubs interested. I have had contact from maybe a bit higher as well and two or three biggish League One sides," said Wright senior.

But he insisted former United boss Nigel Adkins' Southampton are not suitors.

He revealed: "At the moment it is literally just talking, and asking 'how are things, what has happened and what are the plans for this year?'.

"There has been nothing definite yet, but I have only spoken to clubs over the last two or three weeks, which I agreed we would do with Steve Wharton – and so would he.

"I have had quite a few clubs ask me, would United accept a loan deal?

"I put that to the manager on Friday and I don't think that will probably happen, but you never know.

"If Josh doesn't feature, if he goes out on loan for a month, then he can come back fit and raring to go if needed.

"But Ian has told me he is very much a part of his squad and his plans. He sees him getting back into the side.

"It is all very amicable, but Josh has got to play and if he is not going to feature at Scunthorpe and not going to get a transfer, then I think a loan move could be looked at. Hopefully that can be an option.

"I have had contact with some clubs in the last few days, in fact, only yesterday I was on the phone to a Championship side.

"There are also a couple of League One clubs up and around the top of the table who are interested.

"Hopefully he will get some definite interest during the January window, but as we speak at the moment, Josh will probably move on in the summer."

Wright senior insisted the plan was always for his son to stay for two years at Glanford Park, something made clear when the player signed on the dotted line 18 months ago.

"When Josh signed, I spoke to Steve Wharton and Nigel Adkins and they wanted to do a three-year contract," he continued.

"But we only wanted a two-year deal. The intention was to just do the two years which we are coming up to now.

"I spoke to Steve at a recent meeting and said once this contract is finished Josh wanted a move back south. There are no other ins and outs, that is what has gone on.

"The club have been fantastic with Josh. They have given him a big chance in the Championship and he has enjoyed it here. He will leave with good thoughts."

“If we stay up, we have to pay for a new stand....ground improvments are clearly not on the agenda and todays planning application is SIX years after it was first mooted. Also, on the OWS, Beeby states that the new stand will include office spaces, a new bar, club shop, ticket office...WHY? Why not add these on at a later date if the only requiremnt is all seater? I really dont see it happening...whats with the added exec boxes too? Its a single teir expansion so where do the new exec boxes fit in? The only place we need a ticket office and shop is in the town centre IMO. Why is the Study UT entre now being refered to as the 'exec stand expansion' when it's got little to do with SUFC? Grants indeed - deary me....it'll be Argos Catolgue page 134 if the current NOUGHTIES UTILITARIAN 'improvements' are any benchmark...who's replacing Clarks - PLEASE DONT SAY IT'S THE MAD CHIMPS ON ACID RESPONSIBLE FOR THE IRON BAR?

I think we will go down and save all the hassel. DOWN WITH A PROFIT!

    Up the Iron!”

“If Wright doesn't move in January, he will probably give a 100% in a bid to attract a decent buyer. However as he is under 24 a fee will be set by a tribunal which won't take into account his performances between now and summer, so I would be tempted to use players with a furture at the club rather than one whose just trying to sell himself”

“Daddy must be salivating at the thought of these "maybe a bit higher as well" clubs. Surely there is no maybe, they are either higher than the Championship or not. Perhaps the player should look for a new agent!”

“Wright is over-rated and he is not up for a relegation battle, get rid unless he can play as a striker!!!!!!”

“P.doff - We both quoted 1500 from last week, identically, so therefore how can I be lying. But anyway it's nice to hear from you under this 'moniker', you have obviously been lying low after your transfer forecasts blew up in your face.
1500 - do you write you posts in some sort of code only P.doff and the rest of your cronies can understand. I appreciate you are of senior age, but why all the rambling (e.g. have an opinion, change it the next day, change it back the day after). Can't you get tablets to stop your mind wandering.”

“1500club rates all Iron players, past and present...the context in which that quote was taken was following half a dozen daft posts on Wright being a really poor player...I didnt massively rate Justin Walker either BUT as a regular in a Wembley winning team he (like JW) deserves kudos for playing to that level.

Had Wright notched double figures, he would be hot property but like plenty of other tidy midfielders, that lack of goals will hold him back - even though scoring is not his job, he needs something to stand out because he lacks the ability of Jack Cork, for example.

As for 'Brigg Boy' - if you are obsessed enough to trace back through threads at least get the location right....while you're at it get your own moniker and stop nabbing other supporters eh.

Please feel free to submit any further questions to me on United - help you fill in the gaps.

    Up ther Iron!”

“"Well, I rate him as one of the best midfielders we have seen at GP - a class act, rarely gives the ball away, neat passer, compliments a playmaker well, is disciplined and always gives 100% - a great free transfer and based on his dubious friends/relatives I think he has turned out to be a model pro."

1500clubs words from last week - why lie Brigg Boy?”
