AFTER watching Scunthorpe United turn the league table on its head, QPR boss Neil Warnock admitted missed chances in the first half proved costly for his side.

The champions-elect created the better openings before the interval at Glanford Park, but failed to make the most of them and were left reflecting on a 4-1 'freak result' for the Iron.

"I thought Scunthorpe thoroughly deserved it," said Warnock.

"I thought it should have been over at half-time in favour of us.

"We should have been 5-0 up at half-time and I don't think they would have come back from that. But we didn't take our chances and had three or four lads at the back who didn't play like they normally do.

"We didn't take our chances and defended poorly in the second half, which gave them an opportunity.

"We take our chances and we win comfortably – it's our own fault.

"They took their opportunities and the crowd got going, they were hostile and got one or two decisions going their way.

"We ended up a little bit like raggy rovers in the end so I've no complaints, but it could have been a lot different – it's one of those freak results you get.

"That's what makes this league so difficult, there's no such thing as an easy game.

"But good luck to Scunthorpe. They had a little bit of luck, but I don't think Murphy's saves were luck, they were good saves.

"They've got to do that against the other teams though, in the last few games.

"It's a good club. I love Scunthorpe. They don't spend a lot of money but they stick with their managers.

"I know Ian (Baraclough) has gone, but they persevered with him.

Alan (Knill) has come in and he knows the business – it's a friendly place.

"I hope they can get out of it but it will be very difficult this season."
