Water Rescue Day to raise awareness
THE Red Devils parachute team, air ambulance and a British Rally champion are set to turn heads at this years' Water Rescue Day.
Emergency services are standing by to warn North Lincolnshire residents about the dangers of playing near water.
As the weather gets warmer, people are reminded to avoid taking a dip in the region's lakes and ponds - as they often pose a hidden danger to bathers.
Melissa Walker, marketing officer, for Humberside Fire And Rescue Service said: "The main objective for the day is to raise safety awareness among members of the public by providing displays such as water rescue demonstrations and road traffic collision exercises.
"In addition, as we move into spring it is particularly important to ensure that members of the public stay safe around local lakes and ponds. As such, waterside training will be delivered to members of the public throughout the day."
The first water safety event took place in 2008 in order to highlight the danger of youngsters playing near water after 12-year-old Scunthorpe schoolboy, Carrington Sibanda, tragically died while playing in the waters of Ashbyville ponds in May 2008.
This summer, visitors to the free Water Rescue Day will be stunned with an unforgettable piece of thrilling action, held on the waters of Seven Lakes Country Park near Crowle on Saturday, July 10.
