Weather and travel: A15 southbound closed following six vehicle crash (UPDATE)
A road that was the scene of a six-way crash has reopened.
Police are currently in attendance at the collision on the A15 southbound between the A1077 Ferriby Road junction in Barton and the junction for Barnetby. The crash is thought to have involved six vehicles, including a Peugeot 206 and Peugeot 207.
A silver Astra van has also been abandoned on the road.
Nobody is thought to have been injured and police closed the road for a short time, to allow for recovery of the vehicles, but it has now been re-opened.
Now police are urging drivers travelling towards the A15 to take extra care due to poor visibility and bad driving conditions.
At present, police say the weather on the north side of the Humber Bridge is clearer than in the direction of Lincolnshire and it appears drivers are not prepared for the sudden change in visibility when approaching the A15.
Police are asking for those travelling in and around North and North East Lincolnshire to take extra care due to similar weather conditions across the region.
The advice given to drivers is to take extra care and to plan extra time for your journey. Please make sure that your vehicle has its lights on and leave a considerable distance between yourself and the vehicle in front of you.
The freezing weather has left black ice on many of the roads, so police say please be aware of this when driving.

“DaBone - I think Harry is just pulling people's legs. Read his other posts and you might spot some well made points with just a touch of tongue in cheek humour. Life is good just keep smiling and accept that sometimes people can have a laugh even if the humour is not something that you necessarily find amusing...:-)”

“At least you agree the comments were arrogant. Yes we do struggle as a nation in the snow and it can be a joke on how it is dealt with. I totally agree, however, the comments made by HarryWorth were arrogant to say the least. I wasnt trying to be funny at all, just realistic. I also wasnt going to mention the cost of the tyres, im sure they are worth the money but for some people they will be too expensive.”

“DaBone
I must partly agree with HarryWorth, however arrogant his comments may sound to you. What happens in this (allegedly "developed") country during winter months is just a complete joke! Roads, airports, rail, schools etc. being notoriously paralysed by a mere 5-10cm of snow !!! – is this for real? How can other countries cope with that without a big fuss and here it is usually portrayed as some natural disaster? No surprise we are a total laughing stock around Europe.
When do people realise winter tyres are not some stupid invention designed for extreme off-roaders. We may have pretty mild winters here, but temperature-wise it is just perfectly adequate and sensible to use them! Especially when you talk about the "loved ones" And please - don't mention "horrendous" cost right now. Quite a lot of people spend more on bl**dy cigarettes and when you mention people like doctors it's just … not even funny.”

“HarryWorth are you serious? You are fortunate that you can drive a four wheeled vehicle with winter tyres. Others are not. You say the 'ordinary' cars slow you down when they slip and get stuck and should stay at home to leave the roads free for people like you. Have you ever thought that the people driving these so called 'ordinary' vehicles are going to work to earn an honest living. People like doctors and nurses who we need to be able to get to work. You never know when you or a loved one might need them.Your comments are a joke and you seriously should have a word with yourself. I bet you are retired................”

“I have a Micra and a Landrover and the Landy fares far better on the ice than the spam can...”

“I don't think so. Best if the Niccan Micra brigade stay at home as soon when it's snowing, and leave the roads clutter-free for those running appropriate vehicles.”

“HarryWorth - It is irritating when people say they have 4x4's so the wintery weather makes little difference to them! Its not about what vehicle you drive its about how you drive it! Often those in 4x4's are the most at risk to themselves and other road users as they feel they do not have to adapt to the weather conditions! A 17 year old driving a tiny Nissan Micra can be just as safe as an experienced driver driving a 4x4 just as long as they adapt their driving to the conditions!”

“I'm the proud owner of a four wheeled drive vehicle running on winter tyres. The snowy condition make little difference to me, but I do find it irritating having to slow down when those in their ordinary cars start slipping about, getting stuck and blocking the road.”
