FULL-back Marcus Williams celebrates his 25th birthday tomorrow, but looks like struggling to get the present he really wants.

He is a doubtful starter again for Scunthorpe United's clash with leaders QPR at Glanford Park on Saturday.

Williams, who left for Reading last summer, returned to the Iron on loan just before the season's transfer deadline a fortnight ago.

But he is still waiting to make his first appearance in his second spell after a back injury kept him out of the 6-0 defeat at Norwich City.

"He has not been able to train with the rest of the squad, so I am assuming that means he is going to be doubtful for the QPR game, which is a shame," said manager Alan Knill.

"Injuries are a worry at the moment. We have a few knocks and earlier this week had only 15 players on the training field."

One player who does look certain to make his home debut is Leeds United loanee Ramon Nunez.

"He has got a spark and has looked lively in training," added Knill.

"I have been delighted with him.

"It was unfortunate at Norwich last week that we had to bring him off after going down to 10 men when Paul Reid was sent off."

Reid will miss the game against the league leaders as he serves a one-game ban.

“Odd how many players Wharton brought in with no gaffer in place - at least the sacking of Baraclough proved effective in lifting any pressure on Wharton.”
