Win for Oldham Athletic cuts gap between Scunthorpe United and the League One drop zone
THE gap between Scunthorpe United and the League One relegation zone was cut by two points last night.
Oldham Athletic came from behind to win 2-1 at Stevenage and move out of the bottom four at the expense of Colchester United.
The Iron are three points better off than the U's - and both clubs share the same goal difference (-19) - but have played a game more than both of the sides directly below them in the table.
Stevenage took the lead against the Latics, who restored former Scunthorpe captain Cliff Byrne to their starting line-up at the Lamex Stadium, when James Dunne fired in from the edge of the penalty area.

Dean Furman though scored following Matt Smith's knock down less than a minute into the second half and James Tarkowski headed home what proved to be the winner from a corner.
The other game in League One last night had an affect at the other end of the table.
Swindon Town made light of the resignation of manager Paulo Di Canio 24 hours earlier by winning 3-1 at Tranmere Rovers to go top of the table for the first time this season.
Rovers, the long-term leaders of the third tier this term, have now fallen to sixth.

“Stevenage don't seem as tough a nut to crack this season, lucky we play them at home soon. Six points from the next two matches will be huge in terms of keeping the wolves from the door a bit longer.”

“This is the problem we have. Some tough games coming up and too little a buffer with the teams around us. The present situation and being back in the bunfight zone is very slight.”
