THE award-winning movie star, who is due to take over the role of Mad Max from Mel Gibson, is coming to North Lincolnshire on a mission.

This time, however, there will be no mayhem in store for Tom Hardy.

For the 32-year-old London-born actor is intent on raising cash on December 23 to help keep the Lindsey Lodge Hospice in Scunthorpe, up and running.

Originally Tom, who won awards this year for his film role as the jailed criminal Charles Bronson, was coming to North Lincolnshire solely to promote the Trent Valley Farmers' Market at the Stephen H Smith Garden Centre at Gunness.

But local businessman Mark Fish, 46, who befriended the actor on the set of Bronson, said: "Tom's such a good sort, he immediately agreed to also help raise money for Lindsey Lodge."

Earlier in the day Tom will visit the 17-year-old hospice in Burringham Road to meet around 100 residents, staff and volunteers before mingling with shoppers at the Trent Valley market.

Mel Banham, the head of fundraising at the Lodge, said the hospice is running a competition for people to have the chance to have lunch with the A-list star to raise much-needed funds for the charity.
