UNITED boss Ian Baraclough believes the final game of 2010 could provide the confidence boost Scunthorpe need to move up the table in 2011.

A 2-0 victory at Burnley yesterday, with strikes from Martyn Woolford and Chris Dagnall, ended a run of five straight defeats.

With a clean-sheet to boot, Baraclough is certain his team have turned a corner.

"It could have been more," said Baraclough of the final scoreline.

"I've got players that have been low on confidence because they've not been getting results.

"At times we haven't deserved to get beat, so I thought it was a decent performance.

"We've got players who can play high tempo and can cause a back four problems.

"Jonathan Forte and Chris Dagnall are two of the quickest and brightest players in the division."

Baraclough was delighted his players finally got the chance to see action after three successive postponements.

"Great credit to the players and the amount of work they've put in over these last three or four weeks," Baraclough said.

"Players get frustrated when they're not playing games – you can lose your match fitness.

"We've put on almost a mini pre-season when we've not been playing to try to ensure the players are fully fit and ready to go. I think that showed yesterday."

“After three weeks off it was like starting the season all over again. Yesterday's victory was a great confidence boost, with only one loanee on show (Nolan) AND playing four, four, two!
Keep the same team and formation for Saturday, (was thinking about not going, but, after the display yesterday travelled to Scunny to get tickets for the Keepmoat this morning)
And stick to four, four, two for the rest of the season.”
