POLICE are urgently appealing for witnesses after a 55-year-old woman was killed in a car crash in Scunthorpe on Christmas Day.

Three men aged 25, 24 and 20, and an 18-year-old woman have been arrested after the green BMW 320 in which they were travelling, failed to remain at the scene after colliding with a silver Citroen Xsara in Glebe Road, Scunthorpe.

The 55-year-old woman, who was a back seat passenger in the Citroen, was treated at the scene before being taken to Scunthorpe General Hospital where she later died.

A Humberside Police spokesman said: "Humberside Police are urgently seeking any witnesses to the incident as the old-style green BMW failed to stop at the scene.

"We would also ask any witnesses who may have seen the occupants of the BMW driving prior to the incident to contact Humberside Police."

The Citroen's 32-year-old male driver, and a 30-year-old front seat passenger were both treated for non-life threatening injuries at the scene of the accident.

Both vehicles received heavy damage as a result of the incident, which occurred as the Citroen pulled out into Glebe Road from Wells Street at the roundabout with Normanby Road.

Witnesses or anyone with any information regarding the crash are urged to contact Humberside Police on 0845 60 60 222, quoting log 318 of December 25.
