A WOMAN died and four other people were injured, including a 20-month-old baby, when a motorbike and car crashed.

The motorcyclist, a 47-year-old Scunthorpe man, riding a Suzuki GSX 750, was airlifted to Hull Royal Infirmary with serious and multiple internal injuries and a broken breast bone.

His condition was yesterday described as critical.

A woman (43) died at the scene, on the A161 near Belton. She was sitting in the front passenger seat of the Citroen AX car.

A 20-month-old baby girl was last night at Sheffield Children's Hospital in a critical condition, with skull, brain and facial injuries.

She was sitting behind the driver in the car.

The girl's mother, a 29-year-old woman, is in a critical condition in Scunthorpe General Hospital.

She suffered a fractured pelvis, a dislocated leg and internal injuries.

News of the accident broke yesterday on our website, www.thisisscunthorpe.co.uk

The driver (47) escaped with a fractured finger and was not admitted to hospital. All the people in the Citroen car are believed to be from Sheffield.

The accident happened at about 2.50pm on Saturday.

Humberside Police are asking anyone who saw the crash to call 0845 60 60 222, quoting log number 477 of August 23.

“The Telegraph needs to monitor the comments on this board. People should not be allowed to contribute to the pain and suffering of the affected, by posting insensitive remarks regarding fault, blame and blatant generalisations about drivers/motorcyclists. I will be writing a letter of complaint.”

“I am appalled after reading some of the comments on this web site.
I lost my Brother to a RTA and that was 20 years ago, it is something you never get over and if at the time I had had to contend with comments like this I am not sure how I would have felt.
When will Scunthorpe Telegraph take of this facility ? I really think it needs looking into. The people involved are going through enough pain as it is with out comments of mindless idiots like these.
My heart goes out to all the people involved.”
