TWO people have been taken to hospital after being freed from a car involved in a road smash with a van in Scunthorpe.

Emergency services raced to the scene at the junction of East Common Lane and Grange Lane North at about 1.20pm today after a white Ford Transit van and a green Vauxhall Corsa collided.

The two car occupants had to be freed from the wreckage by firefighters and were then taken to hospital by ambulance. One person was taken away on a spinal board.

The two van occupants were unhurt, fire crews told the Scunthorpe Telegraph.

The collision left the van on its side and the Corsa with severe front-end damage.

Four fire engines, including the rescue support unit, were scrambled to the scene along with ambulance and police.

Traffic was being diverted along Midland Road.
