Work ethic of United's squad impresses McDermott
THE one thing that has struck winger Donal McDermott during his loan spell with Scunthorpe United is the work ethic within the club.
He is convinced that can tip the balance in the Iron's favour in their battle to survive in the Championship this season.

McDermott, who is hoping to have a role to play in the closing 12 games, is in optimistic mood.
"When I first came here I knew that the club had just been promoted to this division at the end of last season and were being tipped by a lot of people to go straight back down," said the 20-year-old Manchester City starlet.
"But there are a lot of good players here, a good manager and some good staff.
"And every time Scunthorpe United play, everybody gives 100 per cent.
"I don't really know why people think they are favourites to go down.
"With the players we have here and our work ethic, I think we should be able to stay up.
"Obviously it's going to be hard work. We have to start now and give it our all."

“Why is GP so quiet? I agree I think we do have some exceptionally passionate fans - exemplified by the number of posts on a particular forum website, compared to that of other clubs. Are our fans good at ranting on message boards and on-line newspapers rather than vocally getting behind the team on a saturday afternoon? Strange that this seems to be the case.
Up The Iron!”

“haha i wonder why the passion of the fans wasn't the first thing that struck him upon his arrival. we hardly have the best atmosphere at the ground do we, maybe if we started to actually make some noise other than when we score, players may recognise the passion of the fans...”

“I would suggest the reference to "Start giving it our all" is to do more with the two week break rather than the fact they haven't been giving their all. (some I'm sure would say that Jones often gives too much!!!)
My initial point of concern would be "But there are a lot of good players here, a good manager and some good staff.
If a loanee has notice a failure by some staff to do the job to the best of their abilities then surely the full time members of the club should be getting the management to look at this apparent problem. I suppose we could be looking too much into the words of a young member of the squad who at the end of the day is on loan to get experience both on and off the pitch. I also notice the first thing to strike him isn't the passion of the fans.”

“What is the excuss going to be when we lose this weekend after Adkins decides to play Jones and McCann in place of Raynes and Woolford or O'Conner. We should have the energy and the focus yet Adkins team selection again will see us let in another 4 goals”

“I expect 100 per cent effort by everybody who puts on a Iron shirt. Cliff is the best example of a player who does that. He is loyal too. UP THE IRON”
