AN "INSPIRATIONAL" music masterclass could help North Lincolnshire students hit the right note in their exams.

Professional percussionist and former member of chart-topping Hull-based band The Beautiful South, hosted a special workshop at North Lincolnshire Council's Creative Sensations Conference yesterday.

The event, held at the Reeds Hotel in Barton-Upon-Humber, aimed to inspire and teach educators how to be more creative with their music curriculum to help students achieve top marks.

"I have always took a keen interested in education alongside touring and performing," Gary told the Scunthorpe Telegraph.

"I work with creative writing and help pupils turn their pieces it into extensive sound-scapes.

"It is lovely to have the chance to work with pupils in North Lincolnshire.

"Primary school children are fantastic - they are always so enthusiastic, open to ideas and raring to go.

"Working with secondary school pupils gives you the chance to explore much more in depth and detailed pieces which is wonderful."

As well as teaching educators how to inspire students, some lucky teenagers got the chance to work face-to-face with Gary.

Vale of Ancholme Brass Band tuba player Joe Steede, 17, said: "The instruments were so cool - I loved testing them out," he said.

"This has really opened our minds to the amount of different instruments there are."
