One of the world's most famous brass bands is coming to the Baths Hall.

Black Dyke Brass Band has more than 300 recordings in a career spanning more than 150 years, which the band's label says makes them the globe's most recorded group.

The band is also the most successful contesting brass band in the world, having won the European Championships eleven times, the British Open no less than 29 times and the National Championships of Great Britain 22 times.

Black Dyke will be playing at the Baths Hall in Scunthorpe on Saturday, February 25, from 7.30pm.

Nicholas Childs, the principal conductor and director of music for Black Dyke, said the band was looking forward to playing in Scunthorpe.

He said: "We have not seen the new venue since it was finished.

"There will be something for everybody to enjoy at the show.

"We perform around about 50 concerts a year and this will be our first time in Scunthorpe for a long time.

"Our programme for the show at the Baths Hall has already been decided and it will be very entertaining."

The band has a history of more than 150 years and is one of the oldest and best-known brass bands in the world.

The band was the first to achieve the Grand Slam in 1985 by winning the Yorkshire regional, European, British Open and National Championship contests.

The group has also released a single on The Beatles' Apple Record label, which was an instrumental composed by Lennon and McCartney called Thingumybob, as well as an instrumental version of Yellow Submarine.

Instruments played by the band include horns, cornets, euphoniums, trombones, basses and percussions.

Nicholas said: "With our show, we take you on a journey and all of the people that perform in the band do it because they are very passionate about music.

"There are not many people who leave a Black Dyke show without a smile on their face."

The band has recorded with acts such as Tori Amos, Peter Gabriel and The Beautiful South.

Tickets for the show are priced at between £17.50 and £19.50 and are available from The Baths Hall in person or by contacting the box office on 0844 8542776.
