A petition objecting to the proposal was submitted with 42 signatories from 24 neighbouring properties.

There were concerns about parking and additional traffic being generated.

The Gresham Lodge application resulted in five letters to the council.

One suggested "commercial development" would be out of keeping with the character of the surrounding area.

It was also suggested the gardens were part of the character of the area and should be retained.

Other decisions made by the committee included: CLEATHAM: Vary planning condition 10 to allow a marquee to be sited 12 times a year, Cleatham Hall. REFUSED.

BURTON STATHER: Erect a first floor extension, 28 Holme Drive. APPROVED.

HIBALDSTOW: Erect a two-storey extension to the rear and a detached garage, 119 Station Road. ADJOURNED FOR SITE VISIT.

BOTTESFORD: Erect two-storey and single-storey side extensions, 45 Quebec Road. REFUSED.
