Dark tale for Halloween as balloon goes up for 4,000 Messingham and Bottesford households

A balloon came back to haunt the power supply of more than 4,000 households in the Messingham and Bottesford area over Hallowe’en last night (Thursday Oct 31).

They suffered a power outage around 8.40pm.

Northern Powergrid said most customers would have had power restored within six minutes, with the rest returned to supply by 4am this morning.

A spokeswoman for the company said: “The incident was caused by the fault from last week where a balloon hit two of the cables at once.

“This caused the fault last week.

“Engineers went and repaired this damage, but damage to a device between the ground and overhead cables was not apparent at that time.

“The piece of equipment had been damaged and caused the other fault yesterday.

“Engineers were sent to repair the fault and all power was restored by 4am.”

    “Well . . . . are the MoD reading this ?

    all the money spent on weapons and stealth etc, cheaper to just send the balloons in to disrupt the enemy power supply”
