A fire at a boarded-up property was started after a suspected break-in.

Humberside Fire responded to the incident on the ground floor of a boarded-up flat on Wesley Road in Scunthorpe.

A Humberside Fire spokesman said: “It looks like the property has been broken into.

“The first message we received said it was ‘well alight’.”

Two fire engines from Scunthorpe attended the scene at 12.24am and spent between 40 and 50 minutes tackling the fire.

Humberside Police responded to the incident at 12.35am.

The fire is believed to have been started between 11am and 12.30am on Thursday, October 4.

The property was unoccupied at the time of the incident and nobody was injured.

North Lincolnshire Council also attended the scene afterwards to board up the property again.
