Get on course for jobs in hospitality
FROM working as a barista in a café to stewarding at sports and music events, the hospitality industry offers a spectrum of job opportunities.
To help people in Hull get into the industry, RDS Training is offering four-week training courses.
The company is run by Sharon Porter, and learners who embark on a course are set to gain a number of qualifications.
Yesterday, employers from hospitality businesses in the city came to speak to the 11 learners for their final day.

Ms Porter said: "By the time the learners have finished here, we hope they have passed everything and are employable.
"The feedback from employers has been that the students have enjoyed the course and found it valuable.
"There are jobs in hospitality and I am a firm believer that people have to benefit from what we are doing."
The training course, which is funded by the Skills Funding Agency and is working with Jobcentre Plus, has been designed with the employer in mind.
Ms Porter said: "We asked people in various hospitality sectors what they would be looking for in an employee, so it is tailored to what they want.
"We are always trying to make sure teaching is enjoyable and the learners have said it has given them confidence and a better understanding. It has really helped them think about what they want to do.
"It is not just about what money we can get from funding. It is about making people employable."
Ms Porter said RDS, which has hired the White Hart pub in Alfred Gelder Street, Hull city centre, to run the hospitality training, now wants to work with more employers in the region.
She said: "We want to get hotels on board and expand our connections in the travel and tourism sector. We really hope to expand it."
This is the second hospitality course RDS has held.
Ms Porter said: "We try very hard to liaise with employers and contact them to see if they are interested in taking anyone on for work experience."
RDS has seen a number of learners go on to work with a business on a work experience placement, in the hope they will then gain a permanent job.
Sharon said: "They learn about all the different sections of hospitality.
"We talk about the range of jobs, such as bar staff, the fast food industry, management, travel and tourism. They get a really good overview.
"We want to give them some options and the idea is to give as broad a range as possible to do what they want to do."
The course ends with an employer day, where different employers interview the learners for potential positions in their business.
The next group start their training on Monday.
