Six days to start of new speedway season in Scunthorpe

There are just six days to go until the start of the new speedway season at Scunthorpe’s Eddie Wright Raceway.

The opening meeting is the David Howe Testimonial on Sunday (March 24th) at 3pm.

Howe, the club's all-time top points scorer and current captain, has put together a top quality field including both Elite and Premier League stars.

Five of the 2013 Scorpions are included in the line-up, with just one final name to be announced this week.

JOSH BATES QUALIFIES FOR BRITISH UNDER-21 FINAL

New Henderson Insurance Scunthorpe Scorpion Josh Bates has got his season off to a flyer by qualifying for the final of the British Under-21 Final.

17-year-old Bates scored eight points from his four rides in a curfew-curtailed semi-final at Plymouth on Saturday evening. Also making it through were two 2012 Scunthorpe Saints, Oliver Greenwood and Max Clegg.

Result: Danny Stoneman 10, Oliver Greenwood 10, Darryl Ritchings 10, Dan Greenwood 8, Josh Bates 8, Max Clegg 8, Matt Williamson 7 (all qualify for British U21 Final), Shane Hazelden 7, Liam Carr 4, Richard Andrews 3, Adam Ellis 3, Brendan Johnson 2, Brandon Freemantle 2, Tyler Govier 2, Michael Neale (res) 2, David Abraham (res) 2, Martin Knuckey 0, Nathan Greaves 0. Abandoned after Heat 16 (curfew) – Result stands.
