“I agree, the ST seems very selctive when there may be issues involving race or other cultures.
The policy seems to be a 'make up it at the whim of the editor' with some stories.
Belief in freedom of speech is not the ST strongest point.”

“I am not quite clear of your comments Parkmeister, but agree there appears to be problems with the current S T.

I have problems with the whole of the S T web site and have difficulty in generally following many of the letters and discussions and cannot find the reasons.

I am at the stage of giving up the S T and the web site completely, which I would be sorrow to do.

I do hope you get a satisfactory answer to your question.

    Regards,
    John Donaldson.”

“DFlated had his account disabled because of the M6 Blizzard story and Weather Warnings in the West Country story.

They stated it was against the rules to publish untrue stories. So they are in denial there was a blizzard on the M6 as reported on the news and in the newspapers and it seems that the Met office have stopped warning residents of Devon that there will be winds and floods.

However the Battle of Scotter Bottom is OK.

It is more like they didn't like thier constant weather "NEWS" bulletins mocked.”

“galashiels, for example there may be two stories about the weather, one will allow you to comment by providing a button and the other will have no button. It's not a software fault, it is the choice of the ST & I am asking why this happens.
The ST provide this site free to us as an advertising platform that makes money from advertisers who know there are a lot of visitors to it. As such it has to have attractive features, such as the ability to comment on local news items, as this draws in the users & retains them. However it should not selectively shy away from allowing such features, for whatever reason, that allow free speech & the open debate of its users. The consequence of this is, users will disappear and so will the advertisers and revenue.”

“I have blocked every single advert on the site and won't remove that block until they stop messing around. Innocent commentators have their comments removed and accounts deleted while Neo-Nazi comments (ref Mozart, above) are allowed to remain.

And if I see one more weather "story", national story re-branded as a local story or Brigg gossip I shall puke.

There are many important and worrying events taking place in North Lincolnshire at the moment, but this paper fails to report them. I would like to know who is pulling the editor's strings.”

“First visit back in ages, I got fed up with the 'non news' stuff they were putting out and all that 'top tweets in the area' guff

I probably won't return for a while either because I'm already annoyed at having to close advert pop ups in the middle of the page I'm trying to read - I won't even look at further 'news' after hitting submit on this post

    c ya (much) later”

“Thanks Porkmiester for your further explanation and comments. It has helped me to fully understand your problem and requirements from ST. I do hope and trust we all get a satis factory answer which I believe is a reasonable and fair request. Could it possibly be a problem of space or just to many comments on a particular article or story?

I really don't know but there is obviously problems of sorts at the ST generally and on their web site in particular.

Your requested reply if one appears will certainly be of interest.

    Regards,
    John Donaldson.”

“We can't comment on the demolition of De Lacy House today (not just a building, a home to a community of elderly people). I wonder why? The Tories promised they wouldn't close it and when they do we are silenced.”

Depends on your browser, I use a free add-on called Adblock Plus. I think it's available for Opera, Firefox & Chrome. Not sure about IE.”

“De Lacy House story seems to attract a big cover up. No comments possible. The report in th ST was appaling and didn't reflect the mood of the people who attended the Town meeting. A promise of a bigger story has not materialised.
    What is going on?”
