“And still there are rumblings – more so from Scunthorpe’s usual crock of opportunist, anti Tory suspects - about North Lincolnshire Council’s much needed transformation of its underperforming Youth Service.
And yet I don’t recall seeing very many objectors/protestors at last weeks Petition Panel hearing to fully hear out all the issues and evidence!?
An informal, even handed and fair minded meeting where NLC officers and councillors gave a full, open and transparent explanation of why the Youth Service had failed and why it wasn’t giving tax payers value for money.
If many more had attended, they would have heard full details of the council’s review, plans and initiatives to reverse the trend in falling numbers and attendance at the council youth centres and sessions.
Officers gave evidence that the maximum outreach was 22/23% of North Lincolnshire's youth and, with the Youth Service engaging only 15% at best, 5% at worst of the older age range.
On top of Scunthorpe’s several colleges and North Lincolnshire schools being repeatedly subject to damning Ofsted and Dept for Education inspections and reports; for their inadequate and underperforming leadership and management.
And that North Lincolnshire schools have long been dragging along the bottom of UK performance league tables for their Key Stage testing and GCSE exam results.
Never mind a Panel to get to the bottom of the reasons for the failure of the Youth Service.
Totally beyond me why there aren’t those crying out for a Petition Panel to get to the bottom of what Scunthorpe Labour led NLC - and more so its Cabinet Member for Childrens Services – were all doing for 4 years AND for their money?!
Approx £85K in councillors pay, allowances, expenses for the Cabinet Member alone over the 4 years!!”
