Residents react to windfarm plan
Last week, the Telegraph reported how turbines could soon be towering above the rural landscapes of Bonby, Horkstow and Saxby Wold.
Npower renewables, a leading UK developer and operator of onshore and offshore wind-power, plans to put up the giant structures at Saxby Wolds.
In response to the news, some residents who will be living just a mile or two away from the proposed site are worried the turbines are not an efficient way of generating power.
But some say renewable energy should be welcomed by everybody.
Rowland Alsop (64), of Main Street, Bonby, said: "Wind turbines are a white elephant – you could kit the country out with turbines and they would still only generate five per cent of energy."
Meanwhile down the road, John Addison (44), also of Main Street, has a different view.
He said: "If we all want power from renewable sources then they have got to be sited somewhere. I would sooner see them here than in a scenic place."
North Lincolnshire Council, with the help of town and parish councils, has a policy whereby it will try to prevent North Lincolnshire taking more than its fair share of windfarms in the next few years.
