“Hmmm........,
Not really enough information to comment on this, looks more like an ST ploy to engender conversation/posts than actually report something.
Pick a topic posters, anything goes with ths story.”

As I mentioned in my original comment I accept the use of fire service if it was a medical emergency or fire. I will also say that if the person concerned was either classed as a child / elderly / disabled or a vulnerable person I also agree with use of the fire service. As the story reads however, it mentions only a woman so I can only assume it was a normal female that is not listed in any of the above mentioned vulnerable groups. I only commented on the subject as a similar thing happened to me after I had new doors fitted upstairs. When I pulled on the new door handle some weeks later the handle did come away from the door due to a faulty fitted retaining clip. I had to ring a mate to come to my home and pass me some pliers through the upstairs window. My mate waited outside my home contemplating if he was going to help me straight away or some time later whilst laughing his head off. However better having the p**s taken out of you by your mates or family than a full emergency turn out by the fire brigade with all its inherent dangers and expense to the public purse.
On a lighter note I made my worthless statement because it was a worthless story, and by the way I went for a walk and now feel much better. Thank you for your suggestion.”

“How sad that this lady didn't have a family member, friend, acquaintance or neighbour that she could have phoned instead.
As it is she scrambled the emergency services and a fire engine, complete with crew, were dispatched - at goodness knows what cost.
I agree with JohnJohn, this lady should definitely be sent the bill.
Had there been a "real" emergency – i.e. a fire - whilst this lady was having them put her door handle back on, somebody could have died.
Whose fault would that have been?”

I would not like to meet you on a cold and windy night if you was in a bad mood. Things like this happen from time to time, so stop being a miserable git and chill out.
What if this had happened to an elderly member of your family with a serious health issue, would you charge them. There is always somebody posting worthless comments and this week it is you.
Turn off your computer and get some fresh air, its amazing what it does to 'how wo is me' people like yourself.”

“Another none story reported, I hope the fire authority send her a bill so she can pay it herself or pass it on to the insurers of her home like they would do when dealing with a motor accident. Unless it was a fire or medical emergency it was a waste of resources. Obviously she was able to summon help by some means so why did she not contact a lock smith; she could have also summoned someone to break the door or who had a ladder as it was cheaper than a response by the fire brigade. What an embarrassing episode, this is nearly as bad as a hoax call to get some attention.”

“This is the stuff dreams are made of, stuck in a bedroom and along comes a fire engine manned by handsome, muscular men in uniform. I'd pay good money for this to happen to me, oh, hang on, I live in a bungalow.”
