INFORMATION centre will seek to poll a range of Crosby residents ahead of building work on Scunthorpe's newest health centre.

Work is set to start on a new health and social centre in West Street, Scunthorpe this spring, with the project due for completion in summer 2011.

A new information centre was opened yesterday on the site of the development, manned by two multi-lingual community liaison officers, charged with gathering opinions from across the community.

Donatas Zemaitis, community liaison officer for NHS North Lincolnshire speaks Russian, Lithuanian and Polish, and will be providing advice for Scunthorpe's Eastern European community.

He said: "The language barrier can be a problem and we are looking to reach out to those people who otherwise may not have their voices heard.

"The health centre will be there for the benefit the whole community, and to make sure people get the service they need.

"The more people we can get involved the better, and let them know this is their medical centre and they can shape its future."

The information centre will be manned by Mr Zemaitis, and Somalian speaker Muj Dhul.

The pair will welcome enquiries from the public at the information centre, as well as gauging opinions out in the community.

The information centre will be open on from Monday to Saturday from midday until 3pm, except for Mondays and Saturdays where it will open until 2pm.

“Mr Zemaitis who speaks Polish, Lithuanian and Russian and Mr Dhul who speaks Somali. The very fact that the NHS needs to employ people who speak these languages, speaks volumes for Labour`s immigration policy and also goes someway to explaining why the NHS is creaking at the seams now a days.

Call it racism if you like, I call it common sense.”
