Third heat of Scunthorpe Rock Open contest postponed until November 10
Due to technical problems the Scunthorpe Rock Open third heat has now been postponed.
It was to have been held tomorrow, Friday, November 2, at the town's Bridge Hotel, but has been put back to November 10.
Five bands from Cleethorpes, Lincoln, Hull and Immingham will be in contention in heat three.
For Low Culture, the challengers from Immingham, it will be their third successive attempt at the title, having reached the semi-finals in 2010.
Singer-guitarist Lance Peterson, 23, said there would be one change to this year's line-up with Jim Smith, 18, taking over on bass from John Mawson, 21.
Also due on stage tomorrow at the Bridge will be A Letter to Amelia, Felony, Magic Carpet Factory and A Touch of Freedom.
Lincoln's A Letter to Amelia promise to be the youngest band in this year's battle of the bands, with the four members – Jake Jamieson, Peter Cepelak, Cameron Corton and James Hartley – aged between 16 and 18.
Also making their debut in the open tomorrow are Cleethorpes-based electronica duo A Touch of Freedom.
Lead guitarist Gaz Creswell and bassist-vocalist Adam Smith, both 26, have been playing their own atmospheric rock music since 2006 and take their name from one of their own songs.
Their influences include Blink 182, Angels, +44 and U2.
Proof that former Rock Open contestants go on to greater things comes with the news that two Scunthorpe exiles who play in a Berkshire-based band called The Room have been signed to US label Melodic Revolution Records.
Singer Martin Wilson and drummer Andrew Rae began their career in Scunthorpe with Legacy in the 1980s and played in the Rock Open.
Almost three decades later they have been joined in The Room by guitarist Steve Anderson, keyboardist Steve Checkley and bassist Andy Rowe.
Their debut album called Open Fire is released by Melodic on December 11.
Label president Nick Katona said: "Open Fire is a stunning debut release for The Room. Keep your ears and eyes on this band."
